What is Reiki!

Originating in Japan, Reiki is a healing art and is a subtle and effective form of energy work. A Reiki session is deeply relaxing and helps ease tension and stress, which in turn may encourage the body to balance and heal. This powerful yet gentle process supports and facilitates physical, mental, and emotional healing.

What else can you tell me about Reiki?

Reiki is a non-invasive therapeutic technique intended to support the body’s resolution of disturbances, to help restore the normal flow of energy or "ki," and to help potentially improve the client’s symptoms. Reiki is becoming more widely known as a complementary approach to health, healing, and wellness planning with Reiki practitioners working alongside medical staff in clinics and hospitals around the world. Read more about Reiki and medicine here.

What can I expect at my first Reiki session?

You'll want to arrive 10 minutes early for your first session to get oriented with your Reiki practitioner. We'll discuss the information you provided in your prefilled new client form as well as set an intention for the session. The practitioner will explain the Reiki session process and answer any questions you have before proceeding.

Dress comfortably as a Reiki session is conducted fully clothed. You'll generally lay on your back on a massage table for the duration. For your comfort, you'll be offered supportive pillows/bolsters for under your head, neck, and knees. Once you're nestled in, you'll be offered an eye pillow as well. For easier mobility, Reiki can alternatively be provided while you are sitting in a chair.

When receiving Reiki, a client may feel warm or cool temperatures, a tingling sensation, or may feel completely neutral. Reiki is very relaxing and it is common for clients to enter a meditative or light sleep state during a session. Time is allotted before and after the session for brief discussions.

How are you addressing a healthy environment?

A healthy studio environment is important to us. We follow these protocols:

  • A HEPA air purifier is running in the studio throughout the day.

  • All linens are laundered after each session.

  • The Reiki practitioner wears a face mask during treatment sessions. It is optional for you to wear a face mask.

  • We ask that you reschedule your in-person appointment if you are experiencing any health symptoms (cough, sinus infection, sore throat, or high fever). Alternatively, clients have the option to schedule an online session in lieu of an in-person session.

What can I expect after a Reiki session?

To continue the flow of wellness post-session, we recommend one or more of these self-care tips:

  • Drink more water to flush out toxins (similar to requirements post-massage).

  • Eat a nourishing meal.

  • Refrain from drinking alcohol, caffeine, or smoking (no stimulants).

  • Enjoy a nice walk out in nature or other low-impact activity.

  • Treat yourself to taking an Epsom salt bath or warm shower.

  • If any emotions arise, allow them to surface, observe, and feel them.

  • Engage more with your loved ones or pets.

  • Read or write about something that nourishes your heart.

  • Turn in early and get a restful night's sleep.

Clients often mention they sleep well the night after Reiki. You may continue to feel the energy flow of Reiki for a few days. Enjoy that wonderful feeling!

What do I need to bring for meditation?

Dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat. Seat cushions will be provided or you can bring your own cushion. In the alternative, chairs are provided for seated meditation. Your comfort during meditation is very important.

How many students are in your Reiki classes?

The maximum amount of students per class is four. Smaller class sizes allow for more individual attention to each student. A minimum of two students per class are required for a class to go forward.

Do you offer Reiki classes online?

Not at this time. If you are interested in attending an online Reiki class, get in touch so that we may pursue this avenue of learning with you and other like-minded students.
