What is Reiki!

Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") translates to "universal energy." Originating in Japan, Reiki is a healing art that offers a gentle and effective form of energy work. A Reiki session promotes deep relaxation, helping to reduce tension and stress, which encourages the body to restore its natural balance. This subtle yet powerful process supports and facilitates healing on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels.

What else can you tell me about Reiki?

Reiki is a non-invasive therapeutic technique intended to support the body’s resolution of disturbances, to help restore the normal flow of energy or "ki," which helps to improve the client’s symptoms. Reiki treats the whole body, and its innate intelligence goes to the cause of the issue or complaint. Reiki is becoming more widely known as a complementary approach to health, healing, and wellness planning, with Reiki practitioners working alongside medical staff in clinics and hospitals around the world. What can I expect at my first Reiki session?

During your first appointment, we will spend approximately five minutes reviewing the information you provided on your new client intake form and setting an intention for your session. The practitioner will explain the Reiki session process and address any questions you may have before we begin.

Dress comfortably, as a Reiki session is conducted while you are fully clothed. Typically, you will lie on your back on a massage table for the duration of the session. To enhance your comfort, supportive pillows or bolsters will be provided for your head, neck, and knees. Once you are settled, you will also receive an eye pillow. If you prefer, Reiki can also be performed while you are seated in a chair.

During the session, you may experience changes in temperature, such as feeling warmth or coolness, a tingling sensation, or perhaps feel completely neutral. Reiki is well-known for its relaxing effects, and many clients enter a meditative or near-sleep state during the session. Time will be allocated before and after the session for brief discussions.

How are you addressing a healthy environment?

Maintaining a healthy studio environment is a priority for us. Here are our protocols:

  • A HEPA air purifier operates continuously in the studio throughout the day.

  • All linens are laundered after each session.

  • - If you are experiencing any health symptoms (such as a cough, sinus infection, sore throat, or high fever), we kindly ask that you reschedule your in-person appointment. Alternatively, you may choose to have an online session instead of an in-person visit.

What can I expect after a Reiki session?

To maintain a sense of wellness after your session, we recommend the following self-care tips:

  • Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins, similar to post-massage practices.

  • - Have a nourishing meal to replenish your body.

  • - Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and smoking, as these are all stimulants.

  • - Take a peaceful walk in nature or engage in other low-impact activities.

  • Treat yourself to an Epsom salt bath or a warm shower for relaxation.

  • If any emotions come up, allow yourself to experience and observe them without judgment.

  • - Spend quality time with loved ones or pets to enhance your mood.

  • Read or write about something that brings you joy and nourishment.

  • - Go to bed early to ensure a restful night’s sleep.

Many clients report that they sleep well after a Reikisession. You may continue to feel the energy flow from the Reiki treatment for a few days, so savor that wonderful sensation!
