What is Reiki!

Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") translates to "universal energy." Originating in Japan, Reiki is a healing art that offers a gentle and effective form of energy work. A Reiki session promotes deep relaxation, helping to reduce tension and stress, which encourages the body to restore its natural balance. This subtle yet powerful process supports and facilitates healing on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels.

What else can you tell me about Reiki?

Reiki is a non-invasive therapeutic technique intended to support the body’s resolution of disturbances, to help restore the normal flow of energy or "ki," which helps to improve the client’s symptoms. Reiki treats the whole body, and its innate intelligence goes to the cause of the issue or complaint. Reiki is becoming more widely known as a complementary approach to health, healing, and wellness planning, with Reiki practitioners working alongside medical staff in clinics and hospitals around the world. What can I expect at my first Reiki session?

During your first appointment, we'll take about 10 minutes to review the information you provided on your new client form and establish an intention for your session. The practitioner will explain the Reiki session process and address any questions you may have before beginning.

Dress comfortably, as a Reiki session is conducted while you are fully clothed. You will typically lie on your back on a massage table for the duration of the session. To enhance your comfort, supportive pillows or bolsters will be provided for your head, neck, and knees. Once you are settled in, you will also be given an eye pillow. For added mobility, Reiki can alternatively be performed while you are seated in a chair.

During a Reiki session, you may experience temperature changes, such as warmth or coolness, a tingling sensation, or you may feel completely neutral. Reiki is known for its relaxing effects, and it is common for clients to enter a meditative or near-sleep state during the session. Time will be allocated before and after the session for brief discussions.

How are you addressing a healthy environment?

A healthy studio environment is important to us. We follow these protocols:

  • A HEPA air purifier is running in the studio throughout the day.

  • All linens are laundered after each session.

  • We ask that you reschedule your in-person appointment if you are experiencing any health symptoms (cough, sinus infection, sore throat, or high fever). Alternatively, clients have the option to schedule an online session in lieu of an in-person session.

What can I expect after a Reiki session?

To continue the flow of wellness post-session, we recommend one or more of these self-care tips:

  • Drink more water to flush out toxins (similar to requirements post-massage).

  • Eat a nourishing meal.

  • Refrain from drinking alcohol, caffeine, or smoking (no stimulants).

  • Enjoy a nice walk out in nature or other low-impact activity.

  • Treat yourself to taking an Epsom salt bath or warm shower.

  • If any emotions arise, allow them to surface, observe, and feel them.

  • Engage more with your loved ones or pets.

  • Read or write about something that nourishes your heart.

  • Turn in early and get a restful night's sleep.

Clients often mention they sleep well the night after Reiki. You may continue to feel the energy flow of Reiki for a few days. Enjoy that wonderful feeling!

What do I need to bring for meditation?

Dress comfortably and just bring yourself. Mats, cushions, blankets, and chairs (if needed) are provided. Your comfort during meditation is very important.

How many students are in your Reiki classes?

The maximum amount of students per class is six. Smaller class sizes allow for more individual attention to each student. A minimum of two students per class are required for a class to go forward.

Do you offer Reiki classes online?

Not at this time. If you are interested in attending an online Reiki class, get in touch so that we may pursue this avenue of learning with you and other like-minded students.
